We are currently recruiting for a committed and adaptable Pastoral Assistant / Learning Support Assistant to join a large and inclusive secondary school in Hackney. This is a varied and rewarding position, supporting students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
The role combines both pastoral and classroom-based responsibilities, making it ideal for someone confident supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, and special educational needs.

Provide 1
1 and small group support for students with SEMH, behavioural needs, and SEN
- Support pupils both in lessons and during less structured times throughout the school day
- Assist teaching staff with lesson delivery and classroom management
- Implement behaviour management strategies and support de-escalation where required
- Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, SEN staff, and Heads of Year
- Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and inclusion across the school
The successful candidate will demonstrate
- Experience supporting students with SEMH, behavioural needs, or SEN
- Confidence working within a secondary school environment
- A calm, resilient, and consistent approach
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
- A clear understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice
A background in mentoring, youth work, or education is advantageous but not essential.
