ASD Teaching Assistant

Our client, a leading educational organisation based in East London, is seeking a motivated and experienced Full-Time ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Teaching Assistant to join their committed and supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supporting students with ASD, ensuring they receive the personalised guidance and encouragement needed to succeed within an inclusive learning environment.

As an ASD Teaching Assistant, you will contribute to creating a positive and engaging educational experience for students. Working closely with teaching staff and specialists, you will provide tailored support that enables students to access the curriculum, develop key skills, and achieve both their academic and personal goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualised, one-to-one and small group support to students with ASD, promoting engagement and participation in learning activities
  • Implement targeted strategies and interventions aligned with Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure a consistent and holistic approach to student support
  • Help maintain a structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment tailored to the needs of students with ASD
  • Support the development of communication, social, and behavioural skills using appropriate techniques and tools
  • Monitor student progress, maintaining accurate records and contributing to ongoing assessment and IEP reviews
  • Participate in team meetings, sharing insights to support continuous improvement in student outcomes
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities
  • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating patience, empathy, and professionalism at all times

Person Specification

  • A relevant qualification, such as a Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent, ideally with a focus on special educational needs or ASD
  • Proven experience supporting students with ASD in an educational setting, particularly in one-to-one or small group environments
  • Strong understanding of ASD and effective strategies to support learning, behaviour, and communication
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Effective organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage workload efficiently
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting students' development
  • Willingness to undertake continuous professional development
  • A strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
