Accountable To

Anaesthesia divisional lead GENERAL The remit of the postholder will be to support the departments of Anaesthesia and ITU in day to day activities. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department. PURPOSE OF JOB The post is CT3 equivalent with the appointed candidate supported in completion of all key competencies as set by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Additional support with FRCA exam practice is provided with a strong department teaching programme. The CT3 Equivalent post will offer the following: Access to pre-operative anaesthetic assessment clinics General anaesthesia with experience of elective and emergency surgery for ASA 1-4 patients, Paediatric experience for children aged five and over and experience of TIVA Regional anaesthesia with training in ultrasound guided regional techniques Obstetric anaesthesia with 3 months experience in obstetrics including management of ASA 3 parturients Resuscitation and transfer as part of the medical emergency team and involvement in intra-hospital transfers Pain with access to pain management clinics and acute pain ward rounds Intensive Care with three months experience in adult intensive care unit for those trainees with only three months completed at core level Doctors in these posts will also be allocated named educational supervisors, ability to attend teaching sessions and departmental quality improvement meetings. They will be helped in preparing for the Primary or Final FRCA exam. The SLAP (South London Anaesthetic Primary) course exclusively run at Croydon has to date achieved very high pass rates. The post holder will be actively encouraged to take exams and attend/ contribute to in house teaching.
