About this role
Leading the urology Clinical Nurse Specialists, the post holder will provide clinical leadership for the team. The post holder will help to develop a strategy that will give a focus to the work of the growing urology team.
The postholder will develop the workforce ensuring that they a e able to perform procedures consistent with the role such as Transperineal biopsies.
The successful applicant will become the link to the divisional management; cancer management and the wider nursing team.
· The Lead CNS for Urology services will provide clinical leadership, service management and line management to the Urology CNS team/ service.
· The Lead Urology CNS will deliver expert clinical care at an enhanced level and use their experience to support the band 7 CNSs within their practice and role.
· A clinical nurse specialist (CNS) is a registered nurse with relevant experience and post-registration education for working at an enhanced level within a specific area of practice. They assess, manage, deliver care, advise on, and support patients.
· The Lead CNS for Urology services have the autonomy to act and accept responsibility and accountability for actions, acting as a skilled advisor for patients, or a resource for others.
· The Lead Urology CNS perform specialist holistic assessment and treatment using a personalised approach. This is characterised by a level of decision making based on detailed knowledge and understanding of their area of practice.
· As part of the multidisciplinary team CNSs can work in or across many settings, depending on their area of expertise and scope of practice.
· The Lead Urology CNS will work collaboratively with the Trust Lead Cancer Nurse for the service to deliver personalised care in line with NHS cancer plan, using holistic needs assessment (HNA) to meet changing needs.
The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

· The Lead CNS for Urology services will work collaborative with the Trust Lead Cancer make sure that Urology CNS team provide appropriate information to people affected by cancer, and access a range of cancer resources and services (financial, information, support, etc.), receive appropriately timed information and support and have access to a specialist cancer nurse throughout their entire cancer journey from diagnosis, through treatment to Living with and Beyond Cancer or end of life care.
· The Lead CNS for Urology service will actively engage with the, The Trust Lead Cancer Nurse, cancer management team, the wider trust, RM Partners cancer alliance and other stakeholders as appropriate to continuously raise the profile of cancer nursing, promote patient centred services for patients affected by cancer, contribute to cancer care within their speciality and ensure high quality cancer care.
· The Lead Urology CNS will provide expert clinical supervision and leadership to the CNS team.
· The Lead Urology CNS will operationally manage the service and staff, as well as being instrumental in the pathway management of Urology cancer patients.
· The Lead Urology CNS will work with the team in developing and strengthening clinical pathways with focus on the Prostate.
· The Lead Urology CNS will support the department in regards PIFU and develop a long term strategy in regards such and remote monitoring
· The Lead Nurse Urology will lead and development the service strategy and implement it to make sure it is fit for the current population of Hillingdon
· The Lead Nurse Urology will develop a workforce that fits current practices of nurse led services such as Transperineal biopsy and Cystoscopy
· Depending on the experience there will be an expectation that the Lead Urology CNS will work clinically in Urology (as an ACP or CNS across the pathway).
