Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust • London E9 6SR
About this role
This is a post in adult Urology, based clinically at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, London for 12 months with possibility to extend for a further 6-12 months. The post is scheduled to commence on 1stOctober 2026. This is a busy ‘core urology’ post, supported by an FY1 trainee, together with 4 other Urology Registrars and a Speciality Doctor under the supervision of 5 Consultant Urological Surgeons.
There are daily ward rounds for in-patients and in-patient referrals from other teams where the registrars are expected to assess and outline management, with close consultant supervision. There is plenty of opportunity for training and gaining experience in managing urological emergencies, outpatients, diagnostics, MDT presentation and core urological surgical skills. The timetable includes one half day research/audit session and half day of admin, dependent on the availability of other registrar colleagues.
The post is geared at bridging the gap in knowledge and experience between Urological CT/SHO level and Year 3 Specialist Registrar level trainee. Every effort is made to create a positive learning environment for the whole team.
Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated care trust which provides hospital and community health services for Hackney, the city and surrounding communities. The Trust provides a full range of adult, older people’s and children’s services across medical and surgical specialties.
The post holders will be expected to work as part of a cohesive team with all other members of the Urology department. They will attend Out-patients clinics to assess new and follow-up patients. The Urology unit endeavours to assess all in-patient referrals within 24 hours (Mon-Fri) and with the help of junior surgical staff, investigations and treatment are done in a timely and efficient manner. It is important that the post holder completes the relevant documentation and communicates well with their surgical and urology colleagues to expedite streamlined care of urology inpatients. It is encouraged that all cases will be discussed with the Urology Consultants to ensure appropriate management plans are in place.
