IMPERIAL COLLEGE HEALTHCARE NHS TRUST • London W12 0HS
About this role
The respiratory physiology service has an opportunity to appoint a motivated, enthusiastic individual to the role of Senior Clinical Physiologist. We are an IQIPS accredited service providing comprehensive range of diagnostic testing on a wide variety of patients with both respiratory and non-respiratory conditions. You will join a busy, friendly, multidisciplinary team including physiologists, clinical scientists, administrators and consultants.
The postholder works on a rotational basis across the Trust sites, between Lung Function and the Sleep Centre. Lung function services are spread across 4 sites and undertake a range of standard and complex testing. The sleep service at Charing Cross hospital hosts a busy CPAP service. There will also be opportunities for interested candidates to develop an interest in CPET, oxygen assessments and complex sleep study analysis.
Away from clinical testing, we host students from the PTP and STP courses so there will be an opportunity to be involved in teaching, training and supervision of junior staff. As part of our UKAS accreditation we work with a strong QI mindset and there is an opportunity to participate in service audits. It is essential for the successful applicant to have had previous experience in lung function, and a science background with a BSc in Healthcare Science (respiratory major) or equivalent. It would be preferable if you have obtained the ARTP practitioners' examination and are working towards AHCS equivalence.
- Lead, educate and encourage patients in required test techniques, explaining the need for full co-operation and maximum effort in performing Lung Function tests by demonstrating the same physical effort and enthusiasm.
- Assist in the efficient performance and administration of the Lung Function service and efforts to improve these.
- Assist departmental administrator to make patient appointments with minimal delay, whilst also scheduling and prioritising work.
- Ensure correct usage, safety and appropriate maintenance of equipment ensuring compliance with health and safety, trust clinical governance and risk management.
- Support the development, implementation and testing of new diagnostic
procedures within the department.
- Assume full responsibility for running the laboratory in the absence of the Principal Clinical Physiologist.
