We are currently looking for Environment Health Officer to join our client's team based in Kingston and surrounding areas

Role Overview

The Environmental Health Officer provides environmental health and regulatory services across two council areas within a shared service. The role involves managing a caseload of housing and environmental issues, carrying out inspections, investigating complaints, and taking appropriate enforcement action where needed.

The Environmental Health Officer works with colleagues, residents, and partner organisations to protect public health and improve living conditions. The role requires good judgement, flexibility, and a proactive approach, along with a commitment to delivering a high-quality and efficient service.

Key

Responsibilities of Environmental Health Officer

•Manage your own workload, focusing on serious housing issues like disrepair, nuisances, and hazards.

•Inspect homes (including HMOs) and investigate complaints about housing and environmental problems.

•Review evidence and decide on the right action, from giving advice to taking enforcement action.

•Issue legal notices and support enforcement under relevant laws.

•Prepare clear reports and case files for legal action or prosecutions.

•Act as an expert witness in court or tribunals when needed.

•Work with other agencies to support vulnerable residents and handle complex cases.

Working hours of

Environmental Health Officer

36 hours per week, 09:00am – 17:30pm

Requirements of Environmental Health Officer

•Analyse technical data (like housing assessments or environmental tests) to support decisions.

•Use specialist equipment to investigate issues such as noise or damp.

•Keep accurate records and write clear, professional reports and letters.

•Attend team meetings and help other services when needed.

Relevant qualification (Environmental Health, Trading Standards, or similar) or equivalent experience.

•Experience in environmental health, housing, licensing, or regulatory work.

•Understand key laws related to housing and environmental protection
