About this role
Job Summary The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. Clinical Responsibilities In accordance with the agreed Practice timetable, the post-holder will undertake a variety of duties including: Surgery consultations, telephone consultations, and queries. Visiting patients at home. Checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion. Making professional, autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems. Assessing healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness. Developing care plans in consultation with patients and in line with Practice protocols. Providing counselling and health education. Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers. Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes and collecting data for audit. Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions where possible). Prescribing in accordance with the Practice formulary or generically. Undertaking all normal GP duties, including on-call duties. Participation in Extended Hours (e.g., Saturday mornings or late evenings) pro rata. Other Responsibilities within the Organisation Compliance with all relevant Practice policies (e.g., prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety). Commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice. Contributing to clinical standard setting, evaluation, and audit. Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records and Read-Coding patient data. Attending Practice training and events. Confidentiality Patients entrust the Practice with sensitive information, and they have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy. The post-holder may have access to confidential information regarding patients, carers, staff, and the Practice business. All information is strictly confidential and may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with Practice policies. Health & Safety The post-holder will promote and maintain health, safety, and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy, including: Using personal security systems according to guidelines. Identifying and managing risks in work activities. Making effective use of training and appropriate infection control procedures. Maintaining work areas to be tidy, safe, and free from hazards. Reporting potential risks identified.
