As a Control Centre Operative in our Central Government team, you’ll play a vital role in keeping one of London’s most recognisable transport services running smoothly. Working at the heart of the London Cycle Hire Scheme, you’ll help ensure bikes are available where and when customers need them while maintaining operational excellence for Transport for London.

You’ll be part of a dedicated team whose work touches lives every day – helping thousands of people move around the city sustainably. From managing incidents to coordinating logistics, your work will create a positive impact on communities and contribute to a greener, more connected future.

What you’ll do as a Control Centre

Operative You’ll be entrusted to

  • Manage the day-to-day activity of drivers, mobile operatives and incident response across the scheme
  • Coordinate logistics and front-line interactions with Transport for London and key partners
  • Monitor operational performance and prioritise tasks in line with key performance indicators and service requirements
  • Act as the first point of contact for incidents, resolving or escalating issues to ensure swift resolution
  • Operate core systems including distribution tools, incident management software and reporting platforms
  • Support the redistribution of thousands of bicycles across docking stations to meet customer demand
  • Maintain accurate records and support continuous improvement of operational processes
  • Work collaboratively across teams to deliver service excellence and ensure compliance with health and safety standards

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build trusted relationships
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to resolving issues
  • Confidence using IT systems including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • A flexible approach and the ability to adapt to a dynamic, shift-based working environment
  • A customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality service

Vetting and checks A Standard DBS check will be carried out for this position. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings as permitted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also be completed so we can ensure you have the necessary support to perform your duties.
