The role of the Deputy Charge Nurse within the Emergency Department is key to ensuring the safe care of patients attending the UCH as emergencies. When in charge, you will be responsible for ensuring the management and supervision of the nursing staff in within the ED during your shift along with the Consultant in Charge of the department. You will assist the Senior Nurse and Charge Nurses in leading the nursing staff in ensuring quality of care and meeting and sustaining performance against the Care Quality Indicators ( CQIs) for Emergency Services You will assist the Senior Nurse and Charge Nurses to ensure the educational needs of the ED are met.. In the event of a major incident (MAJAX) you will be responsible for assisting in the co-ordination of the ED response. 1.
Professional Conduct
Work according to the NMC Code and relevant guidelines as a named nurse, ensuring high standards of patient care, assessing nursing and health education needs, and managing care programs, including discharge planning.2.
Ward Management
Act as a deputy for ward organization and management, developing skills in ward/department management and providing leadership in the absence of the senior sister/charge nurse.3.
Strategy Implementation
Promote and implement UCLH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and Core Standards, contributing to the Trusts Top 10 Objectives.4.
Quality Initiatives
Develop and implement Audit, Quality, and Risk Management initiatives.5.
Teaching and Mentoring
Teach, facilitate, mentor, and precept student nurses, participating in clinical supervision programs.Key Working RelationshipsWork alongside Band 6.5 and Band 7 nurses, supported by a Band 7 Team Leader, Matron, and Senior Nurses. Manage a team of Band 3 Nursing Assistants and Band 5 and 6 nurses. Collaborate with the clinical practice facilitator team for staff training and development. Build relationships with the ED medical team, management team, and senior operations team.
