JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic people to join our dedicated team in Critical Care. Our team consists of 11 consultants, 24 junior doctors, and over 100 nurses and AHPs in our two Critical Care units.
About the units

St Helier ICU
13 beds, providing full level 3 and 2 care.

Epsom HDU
6-8 level 2 beds.
·
Annual admissions
1400 patients, including 700 emergency medical patients, 350 emergency surgical patients, and 350 patients following complex elective surgery.

- The main aim of the post is to enable the post holder to recognise potentially life-threatening situations and equip them with the knowledge and skills to initiate immediate resuscitative measures. It will also train them in the appropriate use and interpretation of cardio-pulmonary monitoring.Trainingwillbecompetency-based,accordingtotherecommendationsoftheInter- Collegiate Board for training in Intensive Care Medicine and continuous assessment and 360 degreeappraisalswillalsobeemployed.Therewillberegularconsultant-ledteachingsessions

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).
After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.
- On-call
- The post has night on-call commitment based on a 1:8 rota, which will be based at St Helier Hospital,coveringICU andHDU.Therewillbe2juniordoctorseverynight.Indaytimetherewill be minimum 4 junior doctors in the unit. The unit is always covered by a consultant intensivist, whois on-sitefrom 8AMto9PMand thenon-call (non-resident).CurrentlyEpsom unitcoveris only day time (8AM to 6PM) by critical care juniors. Night cover at Epsom will be provided by Anaeasthetic team
- There is a very close link between critical care unit and anaesthetic department. The on call criticalcarejuniordoctorandanaestheticjuniordoctorareexpectedtoworkasateam andhelp out each other as required.
