The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust • Chelsea SW3 6JJ
About this role
This post is intended for senior trainees who wish to dedicate further time to training in specialist breast diagnostics, oncology, surgery and reconstruction and oncoplastic techniques. The training will be tailored to the needs of the individual within the constraints of the provision of service and peer group training requirements.
An illustrative timetable is given below and various permutations of the rota have been used over recent years. In summary, the four senior middle grades can expect to do on average one one-stop diagnostic clinic per week, two follow up (post op or treatment planning) clinics per week and to be in theatre for a whole day. They will be preparing / presenting the diagnostic concordance review meeting and multidisciplinary meeting every three weeks on average. They are likely to be involved in a skin-sparing mastectomy joint case with plastic surgery once a month. These numbers are illustrative and there may be wide variation on a week-by-week basis in an attempt to accommodate as many trainee requests for annual and study leave as possible.
It is expected that clinical admin will be done in a timely fashion using the EPIC electronic medical record system.
Research and audit can be carried out to follow on from existing projects or the candidate can develop their own project with the support of the breast surgery team. This post is Chelsea-based.
