Registrar Doctor in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery | The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust

About this role

This post is aimed at offering a senior surgical trainee dedicated training time to work in an oncoplastic unit with a high volume of implant reconstruction and complex breast conservation. This role also entails working with plastic surgical colleagues to coordinate and provide the joint immediate autologous reconstruction service. The senior oncoplastic registrar arranges the fortnightly oncoplastic multidisciplinary meeting on a monthly basis (alternating with a colleague based in Sutton). There are also opportunities to attend clinics with colleagues in oncology (medical and clinical), genetics and to spend time with pathology and radiology colleagues to further their multidisciplinary understanding. Unlike the former TIG, this post is not supernumerary, but the job plan and training will be tailored to the individual. Research and audit can be carried out to follow on from existing projects and the candidate will also be encouraged to develop their own project within the timeframe with the support of the Breast Surgery Team. This post is Chelsea based.

  • To manage the planning and delivery of skin-sparing mastectomy service in collaboration with the plastic surgical team to facilitate immediate autologous breast reconstruction on the Chelsea site.
  • To work with the other trainees and staff in clinic to facilitate smooth and continuous service delivery as well as maximise training.
  • To keep up to date with relevant administration work.
  • To deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
  • Exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances and to be available for such irregular commitments as are essential for continuity of patient care.
  • To develop short term project for completion within the time frame to offer opportunity for first author publication
