About this role
The Role
- I am a male aged 58. I live with my wife near Cirencester. Since an accident in 1999 I have been paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury (level c5/6 complete) and need someone to assist with a variety of tasks to enable me to continue living a relatively normal life. I have some arm and hand function, but no function below my chest. I still enjoy an active life; going to the gym, sailing, and voluntary activity. I have a wheelchair accessible vehicle so need my PA to drive. We have a Labrador (Penny) and a cat (Dizzy).
Main Duties
- Getting up, washed and dressed.
- Using my hoists and hoisting in/out of boat (training provided).
- Help with slide board transfers – bed to chair, chair to chair, chair to car (training given).
- Driving.
- Personal care including bowel/bladder management (training given)
- Food & drink preparation.
- Help with exercise equipment.
- Emergency help i.e. choking/autonomic dysreflexia/catheter issues (training can be given)
- Household cleaning, vacuuming, ironing and other domestic chores.
- Recycling and bins - weekly.
- Helping to rig my boat and assisting during sailing sessions
- Accompanying to meetings/functions/shopping/leisure activities as necessary.

Hours
Will be flexible but indicatively –
Monday – 8.30 – 14.30pm
Tuesday – 08.30 – 13.30pm
Wednesday – 8.30 – 17.30pm
Thursday – 8.30 – 17.30pm
Friday – 8.30 – 14.30pm
Saturday – 9.00 – 13.00pm
Sunday – 8.30 – 17.00pm
Ideally the hours will be shared between two or three PAs by mutual agreement.
There are periods of respite cover, up to 10, 7-day blocks per annum
During those periods the PA must be available 24 hours a day, but typically the client will be active 8:30-22:30. There will be time for the PA to rest and to retreat to their own space during this time, the amount of time will vary. The PA must be on call overnight and ensure that the pager is working. Help is only needed occasionally at night.
Pay
Employed - £18.30 per hr (daytime) Sleepover £75.43
Self – Employed - £22.30 per hr (daytime) Sleepover £91.87
