As a Security Guard in our Serco Defence Skynet team, you’ll play a vital role in protecting secure communications that support the UK Government and Armed Forces, helping to keep critical services running safely and effectively.
Working on the prestigious Skynet 5 contract, you’ll be part of a trusted team delivering secure satellite communication services. Your work will directly contribute to national security, ensuring a safe, controlled environment while supporting colleagues, visitors, and operations on site.
What you’ll do as a Security Guard
You’ll be entrusted to
- Act as the first line of defence in support of the site mission
- Carry out patrols and escort duties across the site
- Conduct vehicle and baggage searches
- Issue and manage keys securely
- Monitor and control CCTV, Intruder Detection Systems (IDS), and entry control systems
- Process visitors and maintain accurate access records
- Complete report writing and maintain clear documentation
- Liaise with security personnel and external agencies
- Take part in ongoing training and development
- Carry out additional duties within scope as required by the Security Manager
Security Industry Authority Information
- SIA Licence holders preferable; able to carry out physical guarding duties
- SIA training & licence costs may be provided for the right candidate

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have
- Hold a valid SIA licence
- A valid full manual driving licence
- The ability to achieve Security Clearance or have no issues obtaining one
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications
- Strong attention to detail, timekeeping, and customer service skills
- A proactive attitude and interest in building a career in security
Desirable
- Experience of working in a secure government environment or similar
- First Aid certification
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
