Personal Assistant for a child with special needs.

About this role

We are seeking a kind, reliable and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to support a happy and very active 9-year-old boy living in the Saltash area.

He has autism and experiences difficulties with communication. He is looking for someone patient and consistent who he can build a positive, trusting relationship with and who can provide 1:1 support tailored to his individual needs.

He would like support to develop his communication and social skills while out in the community. He loves being outdoors and has a keen interest in exploring the world around him. His interests include going to the park, woodland walks, trampolining and swimming.

A key part of the role will be supporting him at home and over time out in the community.

The role will also include providing personal care, carried out with dignity, respect and sensitivity, in line with his needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people, values building meaningful relationships, and wants to make a positive difference to a young person’s life.

Experience of supporting individuals with autism and additional needs is essential. A genuine interest in understanding and supporting his needs is most important.

Good rate of pay at £15 per hour.

6 hours per week are available, although this is flexible. These will mostly be required on evenings, weekends and during school holidays.

Car driver essential with business class insurance.

Some knowledge or personal experience of working with young people with special educational needs is essential. The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family and not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.
