As part of the nursing team the healthcare assistant (HCA) will be employed to undertake nursing and administrative duties as deemed suitable by the Partners & Lead Nurse. Full training will be given prior to any patient contact. The HCA will work along side another member of the nursing team. The role involves the use of the computer and keyboard skills along with the ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload. To maintain a safe and effective level of practice and to bring any deficits in training to the attention of the Lead Nurse so that these can be addressed. You will be required to act in a professional manner at all times and adhere to practice policies, protocols and guidelines. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Healthcare Assistant NHS Health checks Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to GPs as appropriate Urinalysis Phlebotomy ECGs Dressings deemed competent to undertake by the Practice Nurse. Removal of sutures Administer Injections like B12, Pneumonia, Shingles, Flu & Covid vaccine Restocking of clinical areas and consulting rooms Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms Check GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required Assist with coil clinics. Co-ordination of annual calibration of equipment & annual stock take. Participate in maintaining a safe environment for staff & patients Checking emergency equipment and fridge temp Daily fridge temperature check and weekly download of fridge temperatures. A duty to advise senior staff of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks Undertake other agreed activities on completion of relevant training, providing you are deemed competent by Lead Nurse. Attend and participate in practice meetings as required. Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date with accurate details recorded Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 This post is subject to an exception order under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. This stipulates that all previous convictions, including those that are spent must be declared. Previous convictions will not necessarily preclude an individual from employment within the practice but must be declared in writing at the appropriate stage during the recruitment process.
