About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist post-16 education provider supporting young people aged 16–25 with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and learning disabilities. The organisation delivers employability-focused programmes designed to develop independence, confidence, workplace readiness, and life skills.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Tutor to support learners working at Entry Level 3 to Level 2. The successful candidate will deliver tailored learning programmes that prepare students for progression into supported internships, further education, employment, and independent living.

This role would suit an experienced tutor, teacher, trainer, or education professional who is passionate about helping young adults with additional needs achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, learner-centred sessions using the RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement) framework.

Differentiate teaching to meet individual learning needs within mixed-ability groups.

Support learners in developing employability skills, independence, confidence, and workplace readiness.

Deliver lessons that embed English, Maths, PSHE, and essential life skills.

Promote learners' personal, social, and emotional development.

Prepare learners for progression into supported internships and work-based opportunities.

Assessment and Progress Monitoring

Assess learner progress and maintain accurate records in line with RARPA requirements.

Produce individual learner reports and evidence achievement against agreed targets.

Conduct progress reviews, interim reviews, and contribute to annual review processes.

Update learner plans and set meaningful, achievable targets.

Work collaboratively with quality assurance processes to maintain high educational standards.

Curriculum and Programme Development

Contribute to the development of schemes of work, learning resources, and teaching strategies.

Support the delivery of employability and soft-skills programmes.

Collaborate with colleagues to develop work experience opportunities and progression pathways.

Ensure learning programmes remain relevant to supported internship requirements and employment outcomes.

Safeguarding and Learner Support

Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Work collaboratively with parents, carers, and external professionals to support learner success.

Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and organisational policies at all times.

Complete and adhere to risk assessments for educational activities and community-based learning.

Professional Development

Participate in ongoing CPD and training relevant to SEN and post-16 education.

Maintain an up-to-date professional development plan.

Work towards relevant teaching qualifications where required.

Requirements

Essential

Experience teaching, tutoring, training, or assessing learners.

Experience supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and/or learning disabilities.

Good understanding of learner-centred teaching approaches and differentiated learning.

GCSE Grade C/Level 2 (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

Strong communication, organisational, and time-management skills.

Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

A proactive, positive, and adaptable approach.

Ability to obtain an Enhanced DBS check for both Child and Adult Workforce.

Desirable

Award in Education and Training (AET) or equivalent teaching qualification.

Diploma in Education and Training (DET), PGCE, assessor qualification, or willingness to work towards one.

Experience working within specialist education, post-16 provision, or the charity sector.

Knowledge of the RARPA framework.

Safeguarding and Prevent training.

D1 driving licence and willingness to drive a minibus.
