Cash and Banking Manager

About this role

Cash and Banking Manager

£60,700 to £66,700 plus great benefits (Work Level 5)

Manchester city centre (hybrid – spending a minimum of two days a week in the office)

We’re looking for a Cash and Banking Manager to join the Cash and Banking team within our wider Co-op Business Services (CBS) organisation. CBS is made up of a number of diverse teams dedicated to delivering high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective business services across our Co-op. You’ll play a key role in helping CBS to support and realise our group vision of ‘co-operating to build more value for member-owners every day’.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the end-to-end funeral cash and banking process, making sure the bank and control account reconciliations are accurate and regulatory compliant. You’ll also contribute towards effective management of the working capital of our Funeralcare business, highlight any key financial risks, and lead a team of talented colleagues. As part of our CBS leadership team, we’ll also look to you to maintain positive relationships with colleagues, and champion the services our area provides, right across Co-op.

Why this role matters

This role helps us make sure our Funeralcare finances are accurate and well-managed. By keeping strong controls in place and always looking to improve how we work, you’ll help us to protect the financial health of the business, meet our regulatory responsibilities, and give our leaders the insight they need to make the right decisions.

What you’ll do

  • Lead, support, and develop a high-performing team, helping them deliver a consistent, high-quality service
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, making sure they’re accurate, timely, and well-controlled
  • Build strong, consistent controls across the end-to-end process, supporting internal and external audits
  • Act as a trusted expert, handling complex queries and overseeing investment partner reconciliations to manage risks
  • Play an active role in our CBS leadership team, helping to shape and deliver our strategy

What you’ll bring

We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:

  • A relevant accountancy qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Experience leading teams and the ability to bring out the best in people
  • Experience implementing financial controls in a banking or shared services environment
  • Good strategic-thinking skills, with the ability to contribute to financial planning
  • Good relationship-building and communication skills

Why Co-op?

At Co-op, we’re owned by our members. And because we’re owned by you, we can do right by you. So when you join us, you’re not just taking a job, you’re joining a movement. We’re an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we’re powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you’ll also receive:

  • Private healthcare
  • An annual incentive scheme (based on individual and business performance)
  • 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
  • A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • 30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
  • Stream – early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
  • Virtual healthcare including GP appointments, mental health support, nutrition and fitness advice
  • 24/7 colleague support service
  • Training and support for your development and career progression
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
