We’re looking for Legal Assistants to join our Probate team at Co-op Legal Services. In this role, you’ll support Case Handlers with a variety of administrative tasks that help keep cases moving smoothly. You don’t need any legal experience for this role, so if you have the skills we’re looking for, we can offer you the opportunity to grow and develop in an ethical legal business.

Why this role matters

As a Legal Assistant, you play a key part in ensuring clients receive a seamless, supportive experience. Your work helps case handlers stay focused on delivering expert legal guidance, while you make sure the essential details, documents, and processes are handled with care and accuracy. By keeping everything organised and running efficiently, you directly contribute to the quality, reliability, and care that clients expect from Co‑op Legal Services.

What you’ll do

  • Support case handlers by carrying out high volumes of administrative work handling confidential paperwork, including sorting post, filing, printing, drafting letters to 3rd parties, franking outgoing mail
  • Answer email queries via a shared inbox
  • Work with a case management system and Microsoft Excel
  • Work effectively from a task list, making sure that the task list is well maintained
  • Complete a variety of ad-hoc requests to meet the needs of the team

What you’ll bring

  • Professional communication skills, to be able to communicate clearly and sensitively with customers, colleagues, and third parties in writing
  • A proactive mindset with persistence to achieve the desired outcome
  • Great organisational skills and strong attention to detail
  • The ability to build meaningful relationships with colleagues and work well as part of a team in an office environment
  • Prioritisation skills, with the ability to adapt to changing demands

Why Co-op?

We’re an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we’re powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you’ll also receive:

  • A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • Incentive scheme up to 10% after probation depending on performance
  • 28 days holiday plus bank holidays (rising to 32 in line with service)
  • 30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
  • Stream – early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
  • Virtual healthcare including GP appointments, mental health support, nutrition and fitness advice
  • 24/7 colleague support service
  • Coaching, training and support such as study leave, to help you develop your skills and progress your career
